Instructional videos related to the creation of my graphic novels, as well as experimental animations and other artistic explorations.
This video shows how I inked a complex two-page spread for my graphic novel Romeo & Juliet, using Manga Studio EX 4. Something is wrong with the ending -- I will re-upload when I've figured out how to fix it.
This video is a summary of my 6 longer videos about the process of creating my 250-page graphic novel The Odyssey (available from Candlewick Press). The Odyssey has received rave reviews from Kirkus, PW, Booklist, School Library Journal, The Horn Book, and the Bulletin of the Center for Children's books. This video includes a look at the concept art, layout, drawing, and painting stages, with commentary by the author. More information at www.garethhinds.com
This short animation of a horse walking is based on Eadweard Muybridge's Animals in Motion, and was done in Photoshop. It was a fun exercise I did primarily to study the structure and anatomy of a horse, and to experiment with Photoshop as an animation tool, rather than to practice animation per se.
The final video in this series, showing the process and techniques I used to produce my graphic novel The Odyssey, coming in fall 2010 from Candlewick Press. This segment shows how I use clipping paths in Photoshop & InDesign to make art elements overlap speech balloons.
Part 5 in my series of process videos, this segment shows how I draw the panel borders for my graphic novel The Odyssey, using Adobe InDesign. For more information visit www.garethhinds.com

Number 2 of 4 videos showing the process I used to create my upcoming graphic novel, The Odyssey (coming in 2010 from Candlewick Press). In this installment, I take a page from digital layout to traditional penciling. Since the final art is pencil and watercolor, all the drawing gets done at this stage.
