The 2007 number-1 draft pick for the Silver and Black missed all of training camp last season because he couldn't come to terms on a contract with Oakland. Russell sports a cannon arm and strong body, however he lacks experience with only 2 starts during the final 2 weeks of last season. In his first start at Jacksonville, he struggled going 7 and 23 for 83 yards, 1 late TD and 3 picks. Russell improved from that game with a better effort at home against San Diego going 23 and 31 for 224 yards, plus 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Notice that those two starts were against playoff teams who combined for 3 wins in the playoffs. AND the Chargers were trying to secure home field in the wildcard playoffs, so they had plenty to play for and came within 1 win of making it to the Super Bowl. Russell's improvement in his second start against quality opposition provides plenty of hope for the Raider Nation.
