How hard should you hit your first serve? It turns out that by taking a little bit of pace off your first serve, you are much more likely to get the ball in. Taking something off your first serve does two things: It allows you to occasionally increase the speed of your serve (as a changeup) and it makes you more consistent. Having a really consistent first serve puts pressure on your opponent to have a great service game too.
