Thom explains how videos by citizen journalists of cops using excessive force sparked the occupy movement into a worldwide phenomena. The videos that have gone viral have been the protesters best defense and proof of police brutality. However an old law, the Eavesdropping Act of 1961, makes taking these videos illegal. The act prohibits people from taking video of police officers. With a major occupy protest planned for Chicago in May, this law could have a major impact. One Illinois State Representative, Elaine Nekritz, is proposing an amendment to the law.
