On Thursday, June 3, in response to Mayor Bloomberg's proposed budget cuts to New York's library systems, members of Queens Library Guild Local 1321 held a rally at the Woodhaven branch. With speakers such as Ed Wendell, President of the Woodhaven Residents Block Association, Maria Concolino, President of the Friends of the Woodhaven Library, and Nick Roloson, from Assemblyman Mike Miller's office, the rally also featured other members of the Friends group, community members, and also dozens if not more than one hundred children. In a twist unique to this branch, the children of the Woodhaven Library also conducted on camera interviews with each other (and several adults) about their use of the library and the impact of layoffs, reduced hours and possible closure.
