An oscar winner and a country superstar team up for a movie that is out of tune and out of touch. Country Strong is a film starring Gwyneth Paltrow, a country superstar trying to bounce back from rehab, and Tim McGraw, the husband manager. McGraw, who for some reason doesn't sing one note in the film, pressures Paltrow to go on tour to boost her career. While on tour Paltrow embarks on an affair with a young singer (played by Garrett Hedlund). All the while McGraw has his eyes on another talented singer on the same tour, played by Gossip Girl Leighton Meester. Overall Paltrow does a good job singing and conveying her character's emotional vulnerability, but as a movie this story was badly written and edited. We never really now Paltrow's back story or if she has battled with addiction for a long time. McGraw's character is even more underdeveloped and it makes it tough to care for either of them on screen. This film could have used a few more script revisions to work on character development. Please take a look at my video review for my rating. The original music is the strongest part of the film, which is pleasant but not memorable, and not enough was done in creating believable, likeable characters. Now you know before you go.
