ignis fatuus; Inflected forms: pl. ig·nes fat·u·i (gnz fch-)1. A phosphorescent light that hovers or flits over swampy ground at night, possibly caused by spontaneous combustion of gases emitted by rotting organic matter. Also called friar's lantern, jack-o'-lantern, will-o'-the-wisp, wisp. 2. Something that misleads or deludes; an illusion. I made this piece from a cartoon i drew. similar to the way i made "twelve" but with no background video. i was rummaging online for some kind of music that might fit with the imagry of the old curiosities exibits of the victorian age; which i think that the cartoon was informed by. opera came to mind- i came accross a collection of wax cylinder recordings; the scratchy faraway sound immediately set the tone- adding scratchy fim effects and very minor animation worked well. Again, despite any appearence of meaning or strong narrative- this short really is pretty vague- emotional narrative is very clear- boredom, curiosity, and then fear of what is revealed; all are really a stepping point for the viewer to make their own subconcious and concious rationales for what the piece "means". I invite you to find your own illusions- mislead yourself.
