"Elapse" was a performance show/event presented by Mobius, held in South Boston noon September 16 to 6pm the 17th.? This show of durational works inluced 12 pieces occuring at varied overlapping times in a large, open loft space (where Mobius holds ArtRages).? This piece occured over 27 hours starting at noon and ending at 3pm the next day.? The video was set up to record 2 seconds every minute.? Unfortunately there was some foul up (the power source I think) causing the first three and a half hours to be mostly missing.? In this performance I am working with a ball of red chenille yarn I have worked into a single chain by crocheting.? I started working with the idea for this material in 2003, slowly at first and then creating a great deal of it during 9 months 2004-5.? It has been lugged around to be added to, worked into a doll, disassembled, tangled, wound and unwound proir to this.? I am also wearing a large, black, machine knit, turtle neck sweater which had been performed with on previous occassions and had started to be dismantled.? I had been wearing and working on undoing the sweater during any time I had idle hands for two days leading up to the performance.? The time I had used it previously left it ripped by the teeth of another performer, cut and loosened by myself.? Ultimately, I acquired this sweater to take apart and gathered the chenille yarn to chain together.? During "Elapse" I switch between working with the chain of chenille, adding to it and taking apart the black sweater.? I also write a little, jot times down when I break and what I had done roughly since the last time I broke from working with the yarn.? I write down some of what I eat and drink, sometimes when I go to the bathroom, which was most likely each time I broke.? I drank approximately a gallon and a half of water while I was there and a large cup of coffee in the last 3 hours.? When I am out of veiw of the camera, I am often below it where I had my notebook, food and water.? Bathroom breaks were brief, but you can tell if I am in my space or not by the presence of the little black shoes right of the leftmost support.? In front of that pillar are my skeins of yarn yet to be added.
