Broadband access is quickly becoming an essential public service, similar to the provision of gas and electricity.

The stakes are high: one single high speed broadband pipe can now deliver the so-called “triple play” - video, voice, and web data.

Every web site has the potential to become a global television or radio station. This is an unprecedented opportunity for people to break through the corporate media bottleneck over content access and distribution.

As Marin considers its future telecommunications infrastructure, tonight we evaluate the experiences of similar initiatives in San Francisco and Oakland.

Be The Media and Media Action Marin invited a panel of local experts to discuss these important issues:

· David Mathison: Moderator. Publisher, Be The Media

· Tim Redmond: Executive Editor, San Francisco Bay Guardian

· Eloise-Rose Lee: Project Director, Broadband Access, Media-Alliance.org

· Andrew Berman: Chairman, Marin Telecommunications Agency

· Peter Franck: Chairman, Media Action Marin

The second part of the show will cover various Community Internet solutions in use around the US. This show will be taped during Media-Alliance’s Digital Inclusion Summit at Laney College Theater in Oakland on February 15, 2008.
