Pollen Nation follows one migratory beekeeper and a semi-load full of honeybees from Minnesota to California, investigating why bees are dying in record numbers. It's a science documentary disguised as an American road movie, and the first film to explore what happens when pollination -- nature's ancient and ingenious intersection of plants and insects -- becomes a global commodity. In 1977 I had the grand oppurtunity to watch the bees released in a walnut/almond field outside Vina and Chico/Redding in northern California. It was the most amazing experience, I've been teeling friends/people about the bees being released on the morning, the shy darkening, the loud hummm that can he heard everywhere, and standing under thie enormous cloud of bees that are doing their pollennation thing. Just awsome!!
I think if you show that process, standing under the bees, the shy getting dark, the humming sound, it would show the beauty of this yearly event. I feel fortunate that I was allowed to witness this in real life and I'll continue to tell folks about my experience and the beauty of it.
Much success in your film, bfn rich carter, sf. ca.
