I wrote this book called The Smart Girl's Guide to Porn, which has been a very popular topic -- so popular that Oprah (O) Magazine asked me to write a piece about women and porn for a recent issue, and has led to many other interesting experiences. You can listen to my Open Source Sex podcast of the book's introduction here.

Guh, what an abysmal experience. Thank you for giving us all the details and god, thank you for standing up for yourself (of course). Wow.

Misrepresenting a group of people is a terrible thing to do. I completely agree with everything you said... Mainstream media needs work. To say the very least.

TV is so fake. But you should really be applauded for trying.

PS. What violent crimes did you list? :-)

Violet - you rock. Sounds like it was a test of your integrity. That said, your experience could have been much worse - on Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity for example. Don't give up - the only way past this tumor in culture is through it. Authenticity will ultimately prevail - consider the public penchant for "Reality" TV.

Ugh that's just horrible! I can't believe that at this day & age such idiocy could still exist!

Well, I'm not going to watch the Tyra Banks show anymore!

but then again, I never watched it in the first place-,-

Regardless, I believe Tyra was just representing what the vast majoiryt of women desire. Except for a very small minority I do not believe that women desire hard core porn. In fact, they find it degrading.

Wow, I am so happy to have come across your video blog. Several months ago I was approached by the Tyra show and asked if I would be interested in appearing on the show to talk about web cam girls. I am a site administrator for a webcam site/social network. One of the producers contacted me and wanted to know what I could tell them about being a cam girl. I asked what their idea of what a cam girl was... I am so happy I did because had I not I would have walked into a broadcasted lynching. Let me tell you it wasn't easy getting a straight answer from them either. I started getting a bit suspicious with how vague they were with me. In the end I would have been up there with angry housewives who felt that hteir marriages have been ruined because of web cam girls stealing their husbands. I respectively turned down the opportunity stating that I wasn't the type of web cam girl that they were looking for. I also added that had I decided to appear and was questioned about my thoughts on whether or not web cam girls were to blame for their failed marriages, my answer would have been absolutely not... the marriage in my opinion would have been in trouble long before any web cam girls came into the picture. Thanks for sharing your experience... your video blog is now saved in my fav's...

I'm so sorry to hear about what an awful experience it was. I can't say that I'm totally surprised though. I think the only TV stations where you're going to get a candid assessment of the range of women's sexuality nowadays are the pay cable stations and the oxygen network. Especially given the prudish machinations of the current FCC. Don't give up on network TV though.

OMG I love you, youre my new best-friend 'in my head'. LOL

I happened to just be cruising thru, looking for info on camming, when I came across this commentary on the Tyra show. Im SO sorry of that awful experience. Mainstream television is super-fake and ultra prudish. Sadly, as much as she claims to 'enpower' women, Tyra Banks is really working for 'da man' and keeping up the myth of the chaste Barbie doll with no sexuality.

Your observation is 100% right, women love all forms of porn and sex, and erotica. I personal write erotic of all forms and people both men and women like it. Men like romance, and yes women like the simple hardcore f*cking. LOL.. stereotypes are so out the window these days in regards to sex.

Think personally speaking she's VERY egostical, I HIGHLY doubt she would encourage anyone upstaging her on her own show, with a sense of humor or a real personality or any fashion sense. Thats why her staff has been trained to 'dilute' the guests and make them more suitable for public viewing. What a LOSER!!

All of these talk shows are like that, I want to the Montell Williams show years ago, it was so phony, I was no longer a fan of his, HALF way through the damn show. LOL.. mess was so phony, it was disgusting.

But dont give up the fight... we women deserve our moments in the sun too...

Its a ashame she doesnt own her sexuality. If you look at alot of her shows, she LOVES to attack her guests. Loves to exploit sex workers, bring them on...then rip them apart. What a damn phony.

Meanwhile, on one such show, she RIPPED apart a woman for erotic modeling. Ha... I got a pic of Tyra right now in a turquiose bikini and up in her crotch!!! LOL.. what a phony.

She been a model for almost 20yrs, as soon as she gains some weight, its no longer cool to take off you clothes and 'sell sex'. Whats the difference from Hustler to Vogue? Oh yeah ...the audience and the price!!! LOL
