Freedom to Read Foundation: Status of Recent Litigation Affecting Libraries

Theresa Chmara, Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) Counsel, Jenner & Block, Washington, D.C., updates librarians on the status of litigation and non-litigation projects recently undertaken or monitored by the FTRF. She also will provide practical information on how these court cases affect the daily operations of libraries. Cosponsored by the Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC) and FTRF, this program in entitled "Status of Recent Litigation Affecting Libraries".

The Freedom to Read Foundation was established to promote and defend this right; to foster libraries and institutions wherein every individual’s First Amendment freedoms are fulfilled; and to support the right of libraries to include in their collections and make available any work which they may legally acquire.

The FTRF was established to protect freedom of speech and of press, public right to of access to information kept in national libraries and safeguard the library rights. I just saw the videos. There were some important information for the librarians that will affect their daily operation. Thanks for this informative video.

I’ve just seen the video clips. Some important guidelines are here for librarians. Really FTRC is trying hard to protect the freedom of speech and press and libraries.

FTRF fulfills its mission through the disbursement of grants to individuals and groups, primarily for the purpose of aiding them in litigation, and through direct participation in litigation dealing with freedom of speech and of the press.
