This tutorial is an introduction to the game of Go. This is part 1 (of 3), which gives an overview of the game for anyone who is curious about it.
These videos were initially created for use in a Go center in the virtual world of Second Life. But they proved useful in other contexts, so they've been "genericised" for use wherever a video Go tutorial is needed.
A nice intro to the game. The progression of ideas is very carefully done so that it feels natural to the viewer even though it actually goes through a lot of material. Doing it in video format is a great touch, since it brings out the material more actively (a lot better than asking someone to pick it up by reading through a bunch of static text.)
I came across this video just as I was looking for materials to help me present Go to a class in a Summer Camp. I ended up just using the first lesson to show them both parts 1 & 2. They were able to play a reasonable game of Go when they were done, and they have all the basics in place for me to build future lessons on top of.
Very useful. Is there a way of downloading these clips? An internet connection is not always available.

Hi, Peter: I'm glad you liked the tutorials. Actually, you can download the files from here... underneath the video screen above, there's a "share" link that will open up an area with tabs. Select the "Permalinks" tab, and you'll see a list of the source files, along with a link that you can use to right-click-and-save them. I've posted files in various formats and resolutions, so you should find one for your environment - let me know if not, and I can see about converting to a new format. I hope they fit your needs.
Now that you've created parts 3a and 3b (both excellent additions), you should make it easier for a beginner to advance from part 1 to part 2. When I press the "More" button from part 1 (or just let it proceed to the next episode), it took me to part 3B. Also, the episodes shown to the right have 3B at the top, followed by 3A, 2, and 1, with 3B the first you one see.

Go is a classic game ever. It teaches players so many things including Asian philosophy. Nice video. Thanks.
