with our video we wanted to attempt documentation of how we actually use the space. we felt the photos already covered the parts, pieces, and volumes and saw this as an opportunity to cover the steps, movements, and interactions. unfortunately, we didn't have timely access to a video camera, so we thought we could use the time elapse feature on our digital camera to document two 100-minute slices of life... day and night, dwelling and cooking in under a minute. hope you enjoy. (by the way, the music is by calexico: the video seemed too surveillance-like without music)
That couch works perfectly in your pad! Would you mind sharing where you got it from?
Great use of the space; very light and airy appearance. Creative display of books-what a fun place for a young couple to live! The views outside the loft windows beckon the apartment dwellers to "come out and play" in America"s finest city. Artsy, yet"easy to work in" kitchen--Well done, David and Im!
evoque, it's a lazyboy by todd oldham. i believe it's called 'snap.' it is comprised of aluminum tube sections that 'snap' on and off of the couch (the cushions snap on and off too) so you can create a normal couch, or a chaise, or just a long bench depending on which configuration you use. on top of that, there are about 200 fabrics/leathers to choose from! it cost exactly 1000 dollars- a lot for us at the time- but we reasoned it out by deciding that we were essentially getting about 11 couches/configurations in one) never in our lives did we imagine we'd buy a lazyboy...
Hi onespace, I love your apartment. It's one of the best in the contest and probably the most imaginative in terms of maximizing your space.
Would you mind telling me where you got the coffee table and if it has drawers on the other side for storage or anything? Thank you!
Your apartment is the coolest by far. This is exactly what I imagine my dream apartment like. Its small yet not clutered with all the compact storage. It's so cool!
Thank for Inspriration I like you house very much. it look like a beautyful not in credible. Cool and Chic
Chin, sorry for the delayed response I've tied to post this message several times but for some reason it wasn't getting through. The coffee table is actually a solid mass of laminated cardboard. We collected sheets of cardboard left over from someone's studio project at school and cut them on the table saw, glued them together, stood back and said "gee i guess its a coffee table" not sure if you've been to the apartmenttherapy.com website but there are some better pictures of it... http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/small-cool-2006-entries/finalist-3-david-ims-onespace-007880
Thanks Carley and Ukrit! It took a lot of work but its nice to come home to a space that make you smile.
Thanks for the response. I never thought that the table would be made of cardboard. That's very creative and original =) The table, much like the rest of your place looks great! I'm sure you've heard this many times before but it is really amazing how efficiently you guys used your space.
Like the above poster, I was also interested in your sofa. Unfortunately the Lazyboy stores here don't have a floor model so I can't try it out before ordering it. May I ask how comfortable and durable it is? Are the cushions hard, soft, etc? I have dogs and I'm worried they will easily damage the fabric.
i think the couch is fantastically comfortable, the durability would depend mainly on which material you pick, there must have been nearly 100 options. the cushions are soft, but i would imagine that might vary a bit depending on the material as well, leather might have a firmer feel, etc. there are two cushion types, one is square in section and is low, the other is tapered and is a bit higher you get 3 of each and can position them however you want. we have a high tapered one on the side and i usually sit on the couch chaise-style. i think its a great couch, and for the price we couldn't find anything that even came close in material selection and flexibility.
