music by me and GarageBand
You don’t have to be a musician to make music with GarageBand. GarageBand includes short pieces of pre-recorded music called loops. Loops contain musical patterns that can be combined and repeated seamlessly.
The loops included with GarageBand, or the additional JamPacks, feature all kinds of different instruments and musical styles. You can arrange loops with different instruments to create just the right combination of sounds. So you can combine, arrange, and extend loops to make your own song.
GarageBand is only available as a part of iLife, a suite of applications intended to simplify the creation and organization of users' digital content. iLife is included on new Macintosh computers; upgrades can be purchased separately. The application is not aimed at professional musicians, but it is intended to help amateurs produce music easily.
GarageBand belongs to the genre of loop-based music sequencing software first popularised during the late-1990s by Sony's ACID Pro. The application comes with 1,000 pre-recorded sampled and sequenced loops, and 50 sampled or synthesized instruments which can be played using a MIDI keyboard connected to the computer, or using an on-screen virtual keyboard. Additional loops and instruments are available in the five GarageBand Jam Packs, separate products offered by Apple Computer.
