I really appreciate the interesting and insightful study of Professor Bruce. It’s surprising that, in a country like America, where people are so open-minded and educated, the inequality and racism problems are still remaining. Here as we can see that the incarceration rate is highest in USA and most of the prisoners are black people. There are vital socio-economic reasons behind this. Firstly, the illiteracy rate is high among the black people, and the lack of proper education creates unemployment, unemployment creates frustration and frustration creates crime- it’s like a chain! Moreover, in recent days the economic crisis is another big reason for increased rate of incarceration. Yesterday I read an article written by a black- American, who has two degrees and work experience, but because he is a black, he is no getting any job, although whites with less knowledge and experience are getting job- at least he believes it and he said that he became very much frustrated and can’t find any meaning of his life.
