A good example of this kind of use of the internet to foster communication between a politician and his constituents can be found at http://www.steveu.com/blog/
This is the site for Steve Urqhart who is the majority whip in the Utah State Senate.
Another example is http://www.pashdown.org/journal/
This is the blog of Pete Ashdown who is very familiar with internet technologies and who just failed to unseat Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) (not that the blog contributed to his defeat - Orrin is an institution in our state)
By the way - I think you are on the right track so far. Eventually you might want to have a blog/podcast/video blog where people can comment without having to get an account. I'd be more than happy to help you figure out the options if you are interested. you might also want to talk to Pete. He could probably make some connections for you on the internet and in the state of Utah. I'd love to see us go blue in 2008.
I think this is a terrific means to speak to interested people. If Mr. Vilsack can keep the content real and honest (i.e. no speech writers) he may very well understand the notion of bloggers within a "trusted community."
good marketing stragedy. I'm personally looking forward to following your campaign and policies. I for one, hope u do continue this and allow the people to reach you, as you said- you will be a better president for it! Take for example, Hugo Chavez, every week he hosts a television show and reaches out to his country. Great thinking.
Please, remember why so many people have adored the US... Please be honest, fair and true to the people. - good luck
God Speed -
Haha ... The comment above made me laugh ... "be more like Hugo Chavez!" Err...
