Before the Woodstock Festival, there were the Woodstock Soundouts, which occurred on a field outside of Woodstock, NY, between 1966 and 1968 (memories vary depending on LSD trips taken).

Many of the performers spending time in Woodstock during that era: Bob Dylan, Odetta, Van Morrison, Tim Hardin, and many others -- are said to have performed at the Soundouts.
