The favourites, Sporting, presented a vastly different line up from the one which comfortably defeated the Champions, Hylton Castle, in the Semi Final. This seemed to give the Youth's a better opportunity as Sporting were forced to play an aging and creaking Mark Kelsey. However, he turned the game on it's head as he added to Sporting's opening strike (an excellent free-kick from Gareth Greener) when he met Catchy's low cross first time to fire past the flailing Dinning. 2-0 and within minutes it was 3-0 from Trevor Walker. THis all within a few minutes. A devastating 3-0 scoreline which didn't change in the second half. Billy Harrison fired one off the crossbar and out, but a slow motion replay showed it was clearly outside. Sporting retain the Open Cup for the second season running, and it's likely they'd be considered hot favourites to come out on top in the next competition - the Super League Cup. Ironically, based on current form, they are likely to be hot favourites to win Season 13, Sassco's 10th Anniversary Season. And like Kelsey, they would have been there at the start and at the end.
