We watched a male and female Chestnut-sided Warbler building their nest just a couple of feet off the ground alongside a path to the historic Vanderbilt's Buck Spring Lodge site. People walking right past it all the time but they just kept building their perfect little nest. I have videos of the male and female also posted on this website.
We filmed this video of a Carolina Wren when visiting the New River Gorge. At the visitors center they have a wooden staircase that takes you way down the hill to view the bridge and the gorge. A Carolina Wren was singing his little heart out near the lower sections of the stairs. This was my first siting of a Carolina Wren.
We took this video near Mt. Pisgah at the Buck Springs site of the Vanderbilt Lodge (not there anymore) outside of Asheville, NC. We believe this to be a female as the color is much less striking and we saw her gathering nesting material with a brighter-colored male. The nest was so perfect.
We pulled off at the overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway and heard bird songs. We finally spotted these wonderful little birds. It was the first time to see a Canada Warbler.
Taken at the store near Mt. Pisgah (Asheville, NC.)
I took this video at the highest point of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We parked and then climbed the trail to the summit. The kinglet greeted us most of the way following us through the trees. They are brave little guys and bounce around a lot. We also saw Chestnut-sided Warblers and Indigo Buntings all along the North Carolina section of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
