Driving on tyres with illegal tread depth could cost more than you think. As well as a fine of £2,500 and three penalty points for each illegal tyre, it could cost you your life. In 2008, 36 motorists in the UK died as a result of an accident where illegal, faulty or under-inflated tyres were a contributory factor. With its simple ‘lifesaver in your pocket’ initiative, TyreSafe is showing drivers how they can quickly and easily use a 20p coin to see if their tyres have enough tread to keep the safe and legal.
