What happens when teams of ordinary citizens turn the spotlight on their own homes and communities—-when they compete to make the best use of energy efficiency programs, products, and methods? The Energy Smackdown is a pilot for a community-based reality contest that follows the story of three families from Medford, Massachusetts as they assume the role of energy efficiency hounds on the "hunt" to reduce energy use in their homes and communities.
On March 7th, the Home Energy Efficiency Team (HEET) and the Energy Smackdown combined forces to weatherize two low-income homes.
Over the weekend of March 21-22nd, the Energy Smackdown™ teams competed to replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents—measured as total wattage saved.
