The first part of my video is a time lapse exploration of the unbelievable, almost magical possibilities inherent to early life. turn the light out is an exploration of reaction. How do we respond to eachother? Are our understandings of presence and absence definable and separate? Can we find calm? Seven manipulations of the same action (shot) reference the days of the week creating a minimal/narrative which ends with a feeling of release and balance. Maybe even rest.
Snow Angels is a visual poem about hope and connecting to things beyond one self. In this place the reality of one's actions may seem ridiculous to others.
Sparkler is a quiet visual poem. Cigarettes are adult sparklers. I think this work plays with what we thought we would be. Our joyous hopes as children when we claimed our names in fire and air and the adult identity tries to name what those hopes are now cloaked in. The burning cigarette becomes a metaphor for that passage from child to adult.
