The mission of Election Defense Alliance is to restore electoral integrity as the foundation of American democracy, by alerting the citizenry to the illusions and dangers of privatized, computerized, fraud-prone voting machines, and working to replace this illegitimate system of secret vote-counting with hand-counted paper ballot elections, conducted by citizens in the precincts in public view, so that the vote-counting process is transparent, secure, verified, and fully accountable to the voters.EDA is building infrastructure for the mass citizen movement that will be necessary to bring about this change, as we continue to monitor and defend elections against overt voter suppression and covert fraud and manipulation, starting from the local precincts and building upward.

On August 28th, 2009, Pima County Superior Court heard a motion to allow destruction of ballots from a disputed 2006 election concerning a $2 billion Regional Transit Authority bond. The RTA election and alleged coverup has been the subject of a three-year series of legal actions. The Citizen activists conducted a forensic analysis of electronic voting databases indicating insider election tampering by Pima County officials. The RTA ballots and poll tapes have never been directly examined in p...
Copies of the rough cut for "Fatally Flawed" (a Sound and Fury Production) have been circulating all last week. It includes an ending with the statement: "After the count, Attorney General Terry Goddard announced that his office found no evidence of tampering of the RTA election" Cynically, perhaps pragmatically, we didn't anticipate having to change the ending. This was a precarious time, actually, because it was very doubtful that Huckelberry would have to go down. I just couldn't see it. Bu...
Charges have since been dismissed, but the damage done to local integrity activists (particularly in preventing Brakey from serving as an observer in Maricopa for the RTA recount) have been observed since the incident. During the primary audit of 2008, a huge statistical number of bags with compromised chain-of-custody seals were discovered by auditors and John Brakey. Brakey was arrested because he wouldn't ignore the issue. Brad Nelson, however, proceeded with the count and ignored the chain...
