In Part 3, members of Zozo Afrobeat begin to arrive as Ben and Kaleta make efforts to arrange the song and the structure continues to take shape. /// Kaleta (Leon Ligan-Majek) is an explosive Afrobeat composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Raised in Nigeria, he grew up surrounded by the invigorating Afrobeat genre — characterized as a complex, yet titillating mix of Yoruba music, jazz, funk, and soul topped off with commanding horns and chanting — and sought mentoring from its legendary forefather, Fela Kuti. The two performed and recorded together and, though distinctly his own, much of Kaleta's music today pays homage to Kuti, as well as other Afrobeat luminaries like King Sunny Ade and Shina Peters. Since moving to the United States, Kaleta has toured with acts like Lauryn Hill, Femi Kuti, and the Akoya Afrobeat ensemble. He is currently the leader of 13-piece, New York City-based group Zozo Afrobeat, who have played Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Central Park Summerstage and various music festivals. /// Official website for Kaleta and Zozo Afrobeat: http://zozoafrobeat.com/ /// Twitter: @zozoafrobeat
