The Big Event for activists interested in governance in the arts and culture sector turned into a a slight smaller event on June 25 2007 when floods and rail delays meant some people couldn't make it. However, when I discussed the day with with Rhona Howarth of Governance Works, and Madeline Hutchins of Allways Learning, we agreed it was really successful. As you'll hear, there was a wide spread of interests present, and a general feeling that while it was important to get the basics of governance right, it was also essential to focus on particular challenges facing organisations in the sector. These included the risks inherent in arts programmes, and the ways to manage risk. One of the strong themes to emerge was the need to share good stories - not just moans - and to organise get-togethers to achieve this. We hope online systems will help too.
