Thursday, 22nd October 2009.The CTBUH named the Linked Hybrid building as the 2009 Best Tall Building Overall at the 8th Annual Awards Dinner, held at Crown Hall in Chicago. There were also four Regional Tall Building Winners awarded on the night – Manitoba Hydro Place won the award for Americas, accepted by Tom Gouldsborough of Manitoba Hydro. Linked Hybrid also won for Asia & Australasia accepted by Steve Holl of Steven Holl Architects. The Broadgate Tower won for Europe, accepted by Jeffery McCarthy of Skidmore Owings & Merrill. Tornado Tower won for Middle East & Africa accepted by building owner Said Abu Odeh of QIPCO. Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to John Portman (Lynn S. Beedle Award) and Prabodh Banavalkar (Fazlur Khan Medal), and CTBUH Fellows were named: Mir M. Ali, Irwin Cantor, and Ryszard M. Kowalczyk. The event concluded with the passing of the CTBUH Chairmanship from David Scott to Professor Sang Dae Kim.
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), based at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, is an international not-for-profit organization sponsored by architecture, engineering, planning, development and construction professionals. Founded in 1969, the Council’s mission is to disseminate best practice information on tall buildings and healthy urban environments, to facilitate business exchange amongst the international tall building / built environment community, and to make the latest knowledge available to professionals in a useful form.
