CrossLab Event: Digital Crafts February 13 2012 De Unie, Mauritsweg 34-35, Rotterdam start: 8pm The digital revolution has encouraged new perspectives on crafts. On the one hand, there is an increasing interest in the return of traditional crafts and techniques like sewing, knitting and carpentry. On the other hand, digital technologies have given these crafts an innovative impulse. This has resulted in a new genre: ‘Digital Crafts’. Designers explore the possibilities of techniques like 3D printing and laser cutting, previously an exclusively industrial territory. Which new design processes and practices have evolved from these new approaches to crafts?
CrossLab is het medialab van de Willem de Kooning Academie. Met als uitgangspunten multimedia, technologie en digitale ‘tools’ wil dit experimentele laboratorium en kenniscentrum technologisch hoogwaardig mediaonderwijs aanbieden. Het doel: studenten van alle studierichtingen prikkelen, inspireren en stimuleren tot het verkennen van technologie en multimedia.
