18 april 2011 / De Unie / Mauritsweg 34-35 / Rotterdam In a time of proverbial information overload, data visualization has become indispensable. Data Visualization is a subjective tool for making important social processes more transparent. The designer will play a new role: that of a translator (and manipulator) of data to form, data crawler, questioner or storyteller. In addition, this event raises the question of how aesthetics and shape influence the interpretation and meaning of data. And: is there a specific visual language for data visualization? Mieke Gerritzen is a pioneer in this area and will introduce the topic. Artist Julius Popp, known from 'bit.fall' - a 'data waterfall'- gives an artistic commentary on the current data overload with his work. Information Designers, Richard Vijgen and Lust show the spectrum of the process-based design of dynamic media, from visual to editorial to software. Christian Nold focuses mainly on the visualization of subjective data: his projects 'Biomapping' and 'Affect Browser' are bottom-up tools for personal information.
