Melvin Goldsmith - The Violin Master

To celebrate Crane.tv's Music Issue we visit the workshop of Melvin Goldsmith, a modern master violin maker to discover the elements required in crafting a musical instrument. Having made his first violin at the age of 12, Goldsmith utilises techniques that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Talking to us as he works, he describes the organic nature of his design process and the way in which each time he creates an instrument it is like a birth. www.goldsmithviolins.com Subscribe to our newsletter at http://www.crane.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/CraneTV Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/crane.tv Blog: http://cranetv.tumblr.com/
