This month on Connect, we take a look at the several options you have to go to a local farmers market, things to do in Kalamazoo County this winter, a special team that visited us in Portage, how to be safe this winter driving, and a look at what was updated with the Kalamazoo Area Building Authority.
The Kalamazoo Area Building Authority, or KABA, came into being a few months back when three townships decided to join together to deal with an imploding construction industry. Since key employees were heading out the door to retirement, Comstock, Kalamazoo and Oshtemo townships decided to join together to create an entity to deal with the construction downturn and its expected rebound. Already, another township, Cooper, has joined in.

Area residents know well the line: If you don?t like the weather in Michigan, wait 5 minutes. It?s wonderful when the weather turns good, but there are safety concerns when it turns bad. We checked in with the head of the American Red Cross of the Greater Kalamazoo Area for some safety tips as we make our way through the frosty months.
Farmers markets in the summer are a regular part of many of our lives. Wandering booth to booth picking up fresh produce, meat, cheeses, even handmade crafts. The KL Avenue Natural Preserve is home to vestiges of ak savanna and oak woodland, which the land conservancy hopes to restore along with the flora and fauna that thrive there. The Connect team recently went out to take a look.
