About this original series

These episodes portray issues and/or success stories surrounding children and families with special needs. In particular we will discuss medically fragile conditions as well as behavioral issues like autism. Our goal is to provide resources to help these children. With more than 60% of our children exhibiting behavioral conditions, we are a leading resource in autism and its treatment.

      This product demonstration for the Smart Table is very much like the Smart Boards used in our classrooms as an assistive technology device. Through its use, children can interact with the images they see on the screen and it can be used in a variety of ways including interacting with the internet.

      This video collage of pictures shows the many individuals and teams that support the worthy cause that is the mission of Children's Care. This year the collective total was more than $75,000, a new record. Close to 1,000 walkers showed up this special day so that kids served by us can more fully reach their individual potentials. There were clowns, cheerleaders, Star Wars fans and so many great people from the community.

Stephen has autism and as puberty arrived, Stephen needed a change to combat his aggressive tendencies. This story demonstrates the success Stephen has had through the eyes of his family.

      This episode chronicles the life and times of Lucas, a child served at Children's Care. Lucas is a medically fragile patient and student who has a rare condition called Lissencephaly. Through the unique environment and infrastructure here, Lucas is able to receive the special medical attention he requires as well as an education. Hear his story told by his parents, Bob and Darla. Lucas' life is further discussed in "Lights from Lucas," a book written by his father, Bob Vander Plaats.

      This video depicts what Children's Care Hospital and School is all about: healthcare, education and love. Based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with an additional facility in Rapid City, Children's Care provides help for those with special needs. Providing education, medical care, outreach, inpatient and outpatient therapies, we are truly a unique organization whose continuum of care is matched by few others.
