GM Vladimir Akopian thrashed GM Andriasian Zaven to stake his claim for the joint leadership along with GM Ni Hua, who drew his game against GM Baadur Zobava. Both the leaders are now on 4.5 points from five rounds. Half a point behind the Joint Leaders are are as many as 18 players including five from India. Indians gave better results with Grandmasters Surya Shekher Gabguly, Abhijeet Gupta, Parimarjan Negi,G N Gopal and MR Lalith Babu winning their games. However IMs Akshayraj Kore, Tania Sachdev, Swapnil Dhopade,lost to their opponents. In the biggest upset of the tournment IM Shyam Sundar defeated GM Dieter Nisipeanu in the 4th Round while Ivan Sokolov and Leok Van Wely lost to their opponents in the fifth round
