This 22 minute video honors the 2009 Champions of the Arts of Monterey County. Lifetime Achievement Champion Jack N. Swanson gives a quick view of his arts and views as a vaquero artist married to Sally Swanson. Luminary Champion : Gail Higginbotham tells the story and motivation behind Salinas' ARIEL Theatrical. Our Champion Educator, Dr. Amalia Mesa-Bains, Ph.D of CSUMB's Visual and Public arts shares her art, nurtures community art, and honors the creators of our diverse cultural heritage. Nonprofit Champions, Meg Biddle and Marcia Perry, share the joy and wisdom of nurturing young artists at Monterey's Youth Arts Collective. Our Champion Philanthropists are South County's David and Susan Gill explain that their friends and hopes for young people keep them active in King City and throughout Monterey County. Our Profession Arts Champion Paul Fleischman talks about his life in Aromas and his writing process. Our Champion Friend of the Arts is Pacific Valley School's David Allan, the instigator behind the Big Sur Fire Fighters mural. Special Champions Erin Lee Gafill and Tom Birmingham tell about the need that led them to found the Big Sur Arts Initiative. Michael Houston created the video. Sean "The Piper" Folsom provided the music as did Rondalla Armonia of the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts.
