A point to point race through the streets of Canberra at night for fixies and singlespeeds. 15mins of mayhem and burning lungs!
The rain held off but the wind was still there for Round 4 of the CORC club XC series at Sparrow Hill. A surprisingly rough course overall, it proved quite fun and challenging at race pace.
Thredbo is famous around Australia for it's fantastic Alpine setting, which is home to one of Australia's premier Downhill runs. The course starts at the top of the resort, starting off with some very fast fireroad complete with waterbars. The remainder of the track is made up of a mix of singletracks - gnarly, rocky sections mixed in with fast smooth sections, with plenty of jumps, drops and berms to keep you smiling!
Race 3 headed north up the start of the recent 24Hr blue lap, before looping back under the first crossover point and back down to the back of the 4X course.
Race 2 was held a little further south, using some singletrack from the recent 24Hr red lap, and looping back around the 4X course.
Melbourne Cup Day 2008 was also Round 3 of the CORC Summer Dirt Crit Series. Three races were held on the day, on different tracks at Mt Stromlo. There was a great turnout for the fast and furious racing, all finishing in time to go and watch the Cup!This is race one, held on the main crit track at Stromlo.
The last round of the BMC 8 Hour Working Week series at Stromlo had a great turnout. The track was great - more of the loose, dusty and rocky Stromlo trails we are growing to love. First climbing up the trunk trail to the summit, then cruising down the top half of the beginner downhill track. Past the concrete pipes then into the boundary trail home. The crit track provides an awesome transition zone, with plenty of village atmosphere!
Mt Majura is one of Canberra's original mountain biking locations. Heaps of great trails wind their way through a mix of pine plantation and native gum trees. This clip is a sample of the trails on offer, being an XC loop of the trails beginning and ending at the top gate at the saddle (after parking at MacKenzie St in Hackett and riding up the fire trail). Use this map in conjunction with the clip to get an idea of where to go.This download is a 5min 'highlights' clip of the ride, but you can...
This is the short crit course found right at the base of Mt Stromlo, on the backside of the 4X track. It's a fun little course with a few jumps and berms, and fortunately this was filmed before the World Cup round, during which the course got chewed into a mudbath...
Last night, the lead-in event to Canberra's World Cup round was held in the City Centre. A short, fast paced MTB Crit wound it's way through the pedestrian walkway in the CBD. There was a great turnout of spectators and riders, with CORC doing a fantastic job of organising the event and related entertainment!
