Facebook has put together a number of ideas and the widgets to go with them to make the social media site useful for businesses. Mike Vernal manages the engineering team for the Facebook Platform, so he has a unique view of how Facebook can be used by business. The theory, says Vernal, is that people can use friends as a “social filter” to find what is good or interesting or useful about a product or business. “I think the world will move towards a place where you can use your friends (online) to discover things,” a process mirroring what happens offline, he says.
