Archaeologists always seek answers only to end up with more questions. It’s like taking a written quiz at school with questions following your even correct answer. Wherever there’s one finding there must be more waiting to be discovered. It takes a hole or two. The researcher must be relentless. In the summer of 2006, Dr. Rick Jones of Bradford University (UK) allowed to join one of his Anglo-American Project excavation teams at Pompeii for about two weeks. In the intense 110-120 degree heat, sweating was a major nuisance since it kept running doing into your eyes. It was also necessary to wear a safety helmet and carry your own water to drink often. What I was unaware of is that a member of our team, Arthur Stephens, an engineer from Houston, was meanwhile making a film of our site and our work. I just now received a copy of his production. Arthur did a terrific producing the film. Near the end the sweaty man in the yellow helmet and no shirt digging feverishly toward China would be me.
