MeatSpace was born in February of 2007. Created by Nate Burr, who’d been animating since February 2002 and had more than 40 short animated films under his belt by the time MeatSpace was created.Nate was also the creator of the smash hit viral video “Circle Circle Dot Dot” which has blown up beyond the boundary’s of youtube, spread across the net, and even to music television. It’s views on youtube alone at the time of writing is counted in fist-fulls of millions! In Janurary 2007, a pilot episode for a proposed series of short animated episodes. “MeatSpace” aimed to be a primarily topical, and somewhat sarcastic and humorous look at the world of “the gamer” and general geeky-ness of the online lifestyle.Starring the main characters Kevin and Toby. The two characters being based heavily off Nate himself, and a mixture of his friends respectively.* The shows name may sound strange at first, but the word meatspace itself is often used online to describe the physical world, as opposed to “cyberspace” or a virtual environment. Nate called the show “MeatSpace” to be representative of the fact we experience the characters cyberspace related moments by witnessing them interacting in their “Meatspace”.Owing much to inspirations like Penny Arcade and Crtl+Alt+Del web-comics, MeatSpace is attempts to bring that kind of humor out of it’s still-framed cage and breathe multimedia life into it in a different medium, stop-motion animation. In todays world of CGI and online flash-toons MeatSpace shows us that good old fashioned stop-mo isn’t dead.*The names Kevin and Toby are in and of themselves geeky references. Kevin being a salute to one of Nate’s idols and inspirations (and lookalike) Kevin Smith. and Toby is from one of Nate’s favorite cartoons from his childhood - AstroBoy (Toby Boynton being the name of the human child AstroBoy was made in the image of)
