Richard Morgan is back from the super high level media mogul retreat hosted by Allen & Company in Sun Valley where he was covering the annual event for The Deal, where he is a staff editor. Richard is a former editor of Adweek, advertising columnist for the New York Observer and author. I worked with him back in the late eighties when I published AdTalk a Web site about digital media. I caught up with him yesterday in the lovely Madison Park, near our world broadcast center on 22nd Street. Richard told me that working in Sun Valley was one tough reporting job as journalists were barred from sessions, meals and even using the same restrooms. Geez. However, he met few big shots including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who denied any interest in Google acquiring Facebook. That's a relief :) Richard said that former Yahoo! boss Terry Semel was job hunting among the elite. In my interview with Richard, he speculates that a sale of Yahoo! is likely within six months and the most likely buyer is Microsoft. We shall see -- but based on positive news of the latest quarterly results and a new 100-day plan, Yahoo! might be on the upswing and acquisition could be pricey. Richard also talks about the expected News Corporation acquisition of Dow Jones -- and how this all plays into business television. DealScape has a very good timeline about the acquisition efforts by Murdoch. See this video on Beet.TV: http://www.beet.tv/2007/07/yahoo-former-ch.html
