We love our fans at Beer America TV, and this week we were sent a beer by Woody Durnell who lives in Central NY. We're familiar with Southern Tier Brewing Company having reviewed their Creme Brulee, so we were just as excited to try out the Imperial Red! Big and malty with excellent use of Hallertau hops makes this beer an excellent Red!! It's hard to find, so if you can't find this one, explore the many others they brew!!
I know we've been slow to roll out blogs here at Beer America TV, but this one is worth the wait as we tackle one of our favorite American Craft breweries - Terrapin Beer Company out of Athens Georgia. As Terrapin puts it - "Indiana Krunkles" Wheat I.P.A. boasts all the hop adventure of an American I.P.A. while leading you on a quest for the malt and yeast found in a traditional German Hefeweizen. It's Side Project 15 and counting, so give it a try if you can find it!
This week on Beer America TV we tackle the rise of Rye! It seems we are seeing more and more beers using this ingredient that doesn't actually taste like you think it would when you think of Rye. A great example of that is Real Ale's Full Moon Rye Pale Ale, a wonderful beer that is well balanced and very tasty. In this episode John will also discuss what rye actually does in the brewing process!
This week on Beer America, we were invited to Beer for Breakfast on Dallas/Fort Worth radio KDGE 102.1 The Edge. Morning show host Vydra tries a new beer each week at 8:10am, but there was one beer no one could get her in the state of Texas, except us of course! They rank beers, many of them low in shows past, so be sure to watch and see what they give this one.
In each hour-long episode of Beer America we'll introduce one of the craft breweries that will be competing at the Great American Beer Festival in September 2012. These breweries will come in all shapes and sizes and from different regions across the United States. We'll explore the history behind each brewery and introduce the unique and outrageous characters that make up their brew crew. Each region of the country is unique, and because of that, their stories and the beer styles they create ...
This week Beer America TV tackles yet one more beer from Dogfish Head. Squall IPA is basically a 100% bottle conditioned version of their 90 Minute IPA thats dry hopped. Another excellent IPA which is by no means a surprise coming from Dogfish! The good news is, this beer should cellar well, the bad news is, they are no longer making it, so if you find it - keep it for a while.
This week, Beer America TV goes Belgo, as in Belgian IPA! This relatively new style of beer seems to be growing in popularity and Flying Dog has a good one in the form of a Raging Bitch! Pulled from their Canis Major series of beers, which are normally reserved for one-offs and special editions, Raging Bitch was put into year round production due to its popularity. Lots of great information in this episode about the style!!
Most of the time here on Beer America TV we discuss beers full of malt, tons of hops or a combination of both, this week, we discuss a beer thats basic, but still full of flavor. Full Sail LTD 04 is a beer brewed with only a single malt and a single hop, and it's perfectly balanced! Its golden deliousness weighs in at a 7% ABV and is very sessionalble - check it out!
While in Vietnam, Beer America TV had the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to Gordon Knight. For those of you who don't know, Oskar Blues brews a brilliant beer called G'Knight. This beer was inspired buy their good friend and fellow brewer Gordon Knight, who was also a Vietnam Veteran and helicopter pilot. Unfortunately, Gordon was killed fighting fires in Colorado, so I thought it would be cool to bring his beer to Vietnam as a tribute.
It's the beginning of 2012, so we here at Beer America TV decided to talk about an excellent Porter to help warm you in the crisp air. Deschutes Black Butte Porter is their flagship brand with an extrememly sessionable ABV of 5.2%. Malty goodness with a slight hop bitterness makes this multi-award winning beer a must try! While only available in the western half of the United States, Deschutes is going through what many American Craft Brewers are going through - rapid growth. John has really g...
