Everyone has their own baseballism - whether it's a fond remembrance from playing the game as a Little Leaguer or watching a ballgame today with your granddad, something about the game of baseball triggers an emotional response. It's these stories, these baseballisms that we consider the poetry of the game. As long-time passionate fans of baseball, we have come to appreciate the beauty of the written and spoken words that the game of baseball inspires.
The adventures of Frank and Joe have taken us through a game at Yankee Stadium, Veterans Stadium for a doubleheader game, out to the home of the Big Red Machine, Riverfront Stadium in Cincinatti and now on to the final leg Three Rivers Stadium. My ticket stub, which is now embedded forever in my brother Kevin's bar, tells me that the Pittsburgh Pirates were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers on that particular day. Yankee Stadium (just now being demolished), Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, and Three Rivers St...
A summer enjoyment growing up was attending Hyannis Mets games of the Cape Cod Summer League. The field was close enough to the house that we could walk or ride bikes up to McKeon Park, and in those early years they played day games until lights were finally installed in 1983.
It's been stated before, but bears repeating ... Baseball is a pastime that bridges generations. Dads pass the passion to sons, brothers play games in the backyard, and daughters are born into a family where the hometown team acts as a continuum upon which stories are hung.
