Commissioner Frank Avila discusses the James Downing Theatre with current Executive Director Ron Denham and Ex-Oficio Executive Director Floyd A. May. The James Downing Theatre announces open auditions for Rehearsal for Murder, by Richard Levinson and William Link and Adapted by D.D. Brooks. This mystery thriller is set in a theater and takes place when a playwright stages an elaborate plan to reveal the truth behind his movie star fiancée’s supposed suicide. The new play is about to start rehearsals and the producer, director and cast discover they’ve all worked together a year before, with the same playwright. What seems to be a mere coincidence begins to take a sinister tone. The last time, the leading lady, the playwright’s fiancée died on opening night. Was it suicide…or was it Murder? Rehearsal for Murder will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, October 15th thru October 30th, 2011. Open Auditions will be held 7 pm-9 pm on Monday August 29th and Tuesday August 30th, 2011. No appointments are necessary. Auditions will be cold readings from the script. Performers should bring a resume and head shot, although not mandatory. Auditions & Performances will be held at the John Waldron Arts Center, housed at Edison Park United Methodist Church, 6740 N Oliphant Ave, Chicago, IL 60631. There are roles for 7—9 men (with doubling possible), ages 30 – 50, and 6 women, ages 25 – 50. There is no pay.
