President holds talks with EU Special Envoy on Horn of Africa affairs Asmara, 17 August 2012 – President Isaias Afwerki today held talks with Mr. Alexandros Rondos, Special Envoy of the European Union on Horn of Africa affairs. In the meeting at State House, the President and Mr. Rondos noted that current developments in the Horn cannot be seen in isolation from the entire region, and thus exchanged views on ways and means the EU could enhance its role in ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. President Isaias expressed Eritrea’s readiness to cooperate in endeavors towards promoting peace and stability in the region, as well as in improving the peoples’ standard of living. He further stated that the EU should enhance its role to this end. Following the meeting, Mr. Rondos said that governments in the region need to demonstrate readiness, as does Eritrea, to enhance their role towards ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
