Nov 5 2007, NTDTV news Prior to returning to India, after his tour around the world, the Dalai Lama stopped in Canada, where he met with the country's most important politicians and met with thousands of supporters. He said he will remain committed to promoting human values, religious harmony, and the “Tibet issue.” The Dalai Lama spoke to a large crowd at Toronto’s Rogers Centre Wednesday. The event sold 15,000 tickets. For many, the Dalai Lama is the embodiment of peace, compassion, and respect. Toronto is only one of the many stops he will make in his visit. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been sharply critical of the attention given to the Dalai Lama's visits to other countries. During the Dalai Lama’s visit to Canada, the CCP warned that meeting with him could affect economic relations between Canada and its second largest trading partner, China. Ottawa defied the Chinese regime Monday, proceeding with public meetings with the Dalai Lama and criticizing the CCP's efforts to prevent the talks. The Dalai Lama insists the purpose of his trip is “non-political”, neither is it to push for a free Tibet. His speech’s theme in Ottawa was “Global Citizenship through Universal Responsibility.” He stated that the whole world can be considered one as there are no more demarcations. The Dalai Lama said that he remains committed to promoting human values, religious harmony, and the "Tibetan issue" until he dies. He also said the best way to do this is through “First inner disarmament, then outer disarmament," by replacing jealousy and hatred with compassion. The 72-year-old pacifist Buddhist monk has lived in India in exile for the past five decades. He was granted honorary Canadian citizenship in June.
