Dec 7 2007, NTDTV news On Monday, the French human rights organization Commission Nationale Consultative des Droits de l'Homme will recognize Mo Shaoping. The Beijing lawyer is being praised for his human rights work in China. Mo Shaoping is winning the award for defending human rights, democracy issues and speaking up for Falun Gong. [Mo Shaoping, Award Winner]: “Talking about human rights is forbidden in China. Human rights protests, human rights issues, democracy issues or Falun Gong news are never on the news in China. That’s not a surprise.” The French human rights organization tried to contact different media in China to run the story, but they were met with deaf ears. Mr. Mo says there is no independent media in China, and that all of it is controlled by the communist party. [Mo Shaoping, Award Winner]: “Although China’s lawyer constitution says that we are obligated to defend human beings, and that they need to be respected and protected, it's not something that lawyers can effectively do. So, the international society seriously criticizes China's human rights situation. The Chinese government has refused to do anything to improve human rights as well. They won’t report on this award at all because it's about human rights.” According an internal disclosure, before Chinese reporters are sent to an international event, they’re always told to keep the reporting within a very narrow boundary, or not to report on it at all.
