    • Sweet Home Buenos Aires!

The corner of Avenue Medrano and Av. Diaz Velez must be one of the noisiest in the city. The mix of trucks (with imbecile drivers) and their air horns, plus taxi cabs and buses make an explosive combination. Add a total disregard for yellow lights, and you get cars and buses crossing at the last nanosecond before the red and ending up blocking the crossing lane. Genius! The icing of the cake are ambulances, as Diaz Velez is a common route for ambulances from a nearby hospital and also the publ...

    • Murphy's law attacks Fernando's notebook HDD

I like to think of myself as the UberGeek... the total computer geek... after all I started back in the early 1980s with a TRS-80 Model III and went up the personal computing ladder with every 8bit, 16bit, 32-bit and now 64-bit OS on Earth. And since the early 1990s I always cared about backups... by early 1990s with Tape Backups.... by mid 1990 with the first 2x SCSI CD writers.... By early 2000 I was still using Tape Backups (4-8 GB per tape) http://tinyurl.com/bzkphy By 2002 I was doing HD i...

    • MercadoLibre experiencing trouble for 2nd day in...

For the second day I'm unable to log-in to the "My Mercadolibre" section of the ML auctions web site. This is unacceptable. I've tried changing browsers, clearing cookies and clearing the browser's cache. It makes no difference. So I decided to record what happens. This could be related to the recent (and apparently ongoing?) migration and integration of the MercadoLibre and DeRemate web sites. An exec at the firm has been contacted but I haven't received any reply at the time of this writing.

    • Hip-Hop dancers at Panasonic booth - CAPER 2007 ...

For the second year in a row, I attended CAPER, 2007 edition. This show is a yearly gathering event by and for the broadcast industry in Argentina. You can see kit peddlers including heavyweights like Sony, Panasonic, Wacom, Manfrotto, Philips, Shure, and lobbying organizations like the ATSC Forum, DVB Group, and the Japanese from ARIB promoting the Japanese ISDB-T HDTV standard (as of 11/2007 Argentina has not choosen a HD standard). But besides the kit and the booth babes, some booths try to...

    • Hugo Chavez at Ferro Stadium, Buenos Aires, Arge...

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez visiting Argentina on March 9, 2007. I attended the rally at the Ferro soccer stadium, which is incidentally not too far from home.In this segment he starts talking about how his predecessors turned Venezuela into an oil exporter and an importer of ¨everything else¨ destroying millions of jobs and Venezuela´s ability to manufacture anything, and how he intends to reverse that and promote agriculture and a local food industry. It was a great experience, and while...
