OS X Tips and Tweaks: How to Enable Translucent Hidden Icons in the Dock

This terminal tweak will enable translucent icons in their hidden state. Instructions: 1. Copy past the following command into terminal: defaults write com.apple.Dock showhidden -bool YES 2. Reset the dock by typing in the following: killall Dock Enjoy your new translucent icons!
