SANGRAM: Sex Worker Organizing in India

Based in a rural community in India’s Maharashtra State, SANGRAM works to ensure equal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support: Over 6,000 women in rural India have participated in HIV testing as a result of these efforts. Drawing on 15 years of work to empower marginalized communities to claim their rights, SANGRAM is becoming an increasingly strong advocate nationally, and globally for health policies and programs that are responsive to the real-life needs of local communities.

The International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC) leads global and local actions to secure every woman’s right to a just and healthy life. We are creating a world where women are free from discrimination, sexual coercion and violence, and have access to health services and information. The Coalition is based in New York, and we work with 75 partners in 10 different countries as well as the United Nations. In the course of our staff and partner travels, we shoot a lot of short videos, featuring activists, advocates, youth leaders, and colleagues. Our videos document the women's rights and health movement around the world. Site: http://iwhc.org Akimbo, our blog: http://blog.iwhc.org
