About this original series

This is a 30 minute digital video documentary made at the Jewish Home San Francisco. Subject matter features Singers and Songwriter of the Jewish Home and dynamic California Arts Council Artist-In-Residence Judith-Kate Friedman who started a songwriting program at The Home, enabling residents to sing their stories and to create a legacy of songs about their lives. Midway through the project, the tragic events of September 11 occurred. The film captures the effects of the tragedy on the project participants and the healing, life affirming spirit that comes from blending art with community. A ‘Specially Wonderful Affair is an uplifting, bittersweet meditation on life and death as it deals with the realities of aging and the joys of staying young at heart. SWA has been screened at the SF Jewish Film Festival 2002, Montreal JFF 2003, Barcelona JFF 2003, Jewish Eye in Tel Aviv 2004, Palm Beach International 2005 and received a television broadcast on PBS affiliate KQED in SF.
