Southwest Airlines has been named Eco-Pioneer of the Year by Air Transport World Magazine. Southwest was recognized for its long-standing focus on efficiency, and its triple bottom line business strategy. The company is the first winner of the magazine’s inaugural 2012 Eco-Aviation Awards. Canadian Tire has projected a ten-times decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, due to the large-scale road-to-rail conversion that the company has undertaken. Also, the company’s business sustainability strategy has reported million dollars in retail sales of energy-saving products through in-store events at 288 Canadian Tire locations, held in partnership with utilities BC Hydro, SaskPower, Ontario Power Authority, and Nova Scotia Power. Kohl’s has published its first comprehensive CSR report outlining the company’s programs in sustainability, community relations, and social compliance. In the energy efficiency department, Kohl’s reports the operation of 121 solar power arrays at stores and corporate facilities; Energy Star labels at 677 locations; and the purchase of 1.4 billion kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits, offsetting 100 percent of the company’s electricity use.
